We're just ordinary people, who love what we do.

Hi there, I’m Terry Jackson. I'm black British of African descent. Growing up, the term “Never wash your dirty linen in public” was drummed into me and I never questioned it. That’s the way things were.

Mental health issues, trauma and other emotional issues were seen as problems related to the weak. Such discussions or emotional outpouring were taboos. The narrative was simply, “Get on with it, life happens”. Counselling is seen as exposing oneself to a stranger and I am motivated to change this belief.

My journey to becoming a counsellor started over 4 years ago. Growing up I experienced my fair share of pain and trauma. I had therapy myself and I will describe it as the most liberating experience that I have ever had in my entire life. My therapist gave me the space and the freedom to express myself, something that has never happened to me before. I became more self-aware and started to accept myself.

Counselling completely transformed my life. I firmly believe that personal growth is a journey and the result is becoming self-aware. During this process a person starts to understand the reasons behind how they relate with themselves and others. Working on oneself leads to a better person who in turn becomes congruent, trusting in their abilities. Counselling provides a non-judgmental space where a person can explore their issues without any prejudice.

Counselling is also an important step in allowing us to fulfil our potential by unearthing those hidden abilities that we all possess whilst dealing with past issues that have held us down. It is vital to find a counsellor who you can relate and feel comfortable with to accompany you on your journey to a better you.

Having experienced therapy, I understand what it’s like to be in those shoes. I create a warm and safe space allowing you to find your voice through being supportive and encouraging because you are the expert of your life.

I realise that counselling is still not an inclusive practice for all cultures,

but I’ll use my experience as a testimony to say that “It’s ok not be okay”. There is no shame in asking for support and I want to play my part in supporting people to break from cultural taboos and live their lives to the fullest.
